Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research and Knowledge Exchange
Dr Lisa Mooney has worked at the interface between interdisciplinary scholarship and business in higher education for over 25 years. She has a background in fine art and critical theory, but is best known for her work on the study of collaborative research practices and interdisciplinary research methodology with industry. Her current work explores how the humanities and social science disciplines might be better enabled to interact with the demands of the knowledge exchange environment, and particularly how academic and institutional practices enhance or inhibit these types of interactions.
Lisa is responsible for the full research portfolio across the institution as well as leading on ethical governance, postgraduate research and the Research Excellence Framework (REF). She is actively involved in both national and international networks concerned to raise the impact and profile of the humanities and social sciences, and regularly writes on the shifts and changes brought about by collaborative research practices in academia and industry.
Lisa is an active Board Director of the New Art Exchange, the first Gallery in the UK set up to support and develop Black and Asian contemporary visual artists. She is also a Director on the Board of Threshold Studios, supporting the development of arts and digital commissioning in the UK and abroad. In these positions she strives to develop a coherent and productive relationship between cultural organisations and academic research, ensuring brokerage across multiple sectors supports the generation of innovative ideas and increased investment opportunities.
