Professor of Gender Studies at Örebro University
Liisa Husu is Professor of Gender Studies at Örebro University, and the Co-Director of the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies and in Sweden.
She was engaged in gender equality policy-making in the Finnish governmental gender equality machinery as a Senior Adviser and National Coordinator of Women’s Studies, in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Social Affairs from early 1980s to mid-1990s.
Her research and publications focus on gender inacademia and knowledge production, especially gender dynamics and in equalities in scientiﬁc careers, organisations and science policy. She has lectured and presented her research in over thirty countries, and contributed as a gender expert/adviser for R&D stakeholders in Europe and internationally, including ministries, international and national agencies, funding organisations, universities and research institutes.
She has played an active role in European research development and actions on gender and science in EC expert groups and EC research projects (ADVANCE, PROMETEA, genSET, GenPORT, GEDII). She was the Rapporteur of the EC ex pert group Gen der and Excellence (The Gender Challenge in Research Funding, 2009), a founding member of the European Platform of Women Scientists EPWS, and is a member of the Scientiﬁc Advisory Board of EWORA, European Women Rectors Association.
She co-organised the ﬁrst European conference on gender equality in higher education in Helsinki and, as the moderator of the European Network on Gender Equality in Higher Education, has since contributed to the organising of the nine subsequent European conferences.
